Lamborghini has been a household name among supercars for many years. Lamborghinis are considered to be extremely enjoyable to drive by auto aficionados, and they have also evolved into status symbols. Even though the Lamborghini name is now primarily associated with automobiles, you might be surprised to learn that the first thing with the Lamborghini name wasn’t a car. It was actually a tractor.

The history of Lamborghini

Ferruccio Lamborghini, the company’s founder, is the source of the name Lamborghini. Lamborghini was born on April 28, 1916, according to history. Although we will discuss this later, his initial business effort did not include the creation of luxury automobiles. These early commercial endeavors provided Lamborghini with the resources to buy expensive cars like a Ferrari.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, however, would soon start to compete with Ferrari, and it’s possible that his decision to enter the auto industry was entirely motivated by a problem with a Ferrari. When Lamborghini complained about the Ferrari’s clutch and it was not satisfactorily resolved, Lamborghini made the decision to simply found his own high-end automobile manufacturer. Automobili Lamborghini was the name chosen for this business.

The Lamborghini 350 GTV, a sports coupe with a V12 engine, was Automobili Lamborghini’s first vehicle. The rest, as they say, is history, with Lamborghini going on to become a leading manufacturer of high-end automobiles with powerful engines.

Presently a Volkswagen Group company, Lamborghini is a leading innovator in the automotive industry. The Lamborghini Urus distinguishes out as an SUV with the distinctive power of a Lamborghini, while vehicles like the Lamborghini Aventador redefine performance.

Having retired in the 1970s, Ferruccio Lamborghini passed away in 1993.

Prior to creating supercars, Lamborghini produced tractors.

Although Ferruccio Lamborghini had one notable business before to founding an automaker, his most famous works are his iconic supercars. The first Lamborghini company made tractors under the name Lamborghini Trattori.

In the Italian region of Bologna, he established his tractor business in 1948, and it has a distinguished past comparable to that of Automobili Lamborghini.

Due to the early success of this tractor business, Ferruccio Lamborghini was able to purchase a Ferrari, which eventually inspired him to design his own automobiles. Initially, the engines used in Lamborghini tractors came from other manufacturers, but by the middle of the 1950s, Lamborghini Trattori was producing its own engines.

As Automobili Lamborghini became an iconic brand, one might expect Lamborghini’s first company to take a backseat, but this is not the case. Instead, Lamborghini Trattori continued to thrive.

The tractor company remains separate from the automaker, but it has a similar bull logo. Lamborghini Trattori lists 26 models of tractors currently available on its website. Even though these are tractors and not supercars, Lamborghini tractors do have a sleek style worthy of the Lamborghini name.

What were the original Lamborghini tractors like?

The first tractors produced by Lamborghini Trattori in 1948 were a long cry from the opulent supercars that typically come to mind when the name Lamborghini is spoken. The original Lamborghini tractors were constructed using elements left over from World War II, including military trucks. These tractors weren’t particularly fancy, but they contributed to the spread of the Lamborghini brand.

According to Motor 1, Lamborghini produced their first tractor without using leftover military components in 1951. Because Lamborghini did not yet manufacture engines, this tractor model, known as the L33, was propelled by a Morris inline-six.

Lamborghini Trattori also became known for its crawler tractors. Rather than having wheels, crawler tractors have tracks. The first Lamborghini crawler was called the DL 25 C, and it came out in 1955. Today, Lamborghini Trattori sells both crawlers and tractors with standard wheels.
