In Danbury. The former Brookfield school resource officer who was detained three months ago on suspicion of tampering with evidence has filed for a unique program that might seal his criminal record.
Following an inquiry into the distribution of nude photos of former female high school pupils, Steven Rountos, 32, was detained in November. The arrest warrant states that Rountos acknowledged purposefully destroying a cellphone that investigators suspected contained evidence relevant to the case in addition to “sharing” the images around.
The Southbury resident and native of Brookfield resigned from her position as a school resource officer at Brookfield High School in November 2021 while under internal investigation as a result of an investigation resulting from a complaint lodged with the Brookfield and Danbury police departments by two former Brookfield High School students. In August 2021, the police department had suspended him.
After Rountos’ most recent court appearance, when his attorney Nicole Lipkin stated that he “applied for a diversionary program called accelerated rehabilitation,” the file at the state Superior Court in Danbury was statutorily sealed.
