Reuters, Feb. 10, ZAGREB – Do you yearn for zucchini spaghetti, black risotto, or gnocchi with lamb? In a Croatian restaurant, a robotic chef can mix up about 70 distinct one-pot meals, any of which you can request.

The BOTS&POTS Sci-Food cafe in Zagreb, according to its creators, is the first establishment in the world where prepared meals in a pot are prepared by robotic cookers with no human intervention other than to load the devices with fresh ingredients.

According to digital recipes created by a human chef, the machines season and add oil as needed.

However, “there is no robot which creates a one pot dinner from fresh ingredients,” according to restaurant co-owner Hrvoje Bujas. In other such restaurants, robots stir-fry chips and hamburgers, cook pizzas, or serve and transport meals.

The partners of Bujas invested more than 1 million euros ($1.07 million) to open the restaurant last year, a process that took them seven years.

In the high-tech restaurant, Bujas told Reuters, “It was really a challenge to make a ready-to-eat meal from fresh food in the shortest amount of time as feasible and as tasty as it can be.

Customers appear to concur.

Lovro Petar Andrisek, 18, who visited Bots&Pots as a birthday present commented, “The cuisine is of the highest quality.” He chuckled, “My plate is completely clean.

The head chef of the restaurant “teaches” the robotic chef known as GammaChef how to prepare a dish digitally, after which it memorizes it and repeats it indefinitely.

According to Bujas, five robot cookers can each prepare four meals in 15 minutes, or nearly 100 meals in an hour, and each would cost 10,000 euros to buy.

The robot speeds up the cooking process and saves money at a time when there are staff shortages, according to Bujas, who added that “we’re thinking about expanding our business model via franchise.”

One person could manage a restaurant with five robots, he claimed. Our ultimate goal is to design a “no waiter, no chef, no cash” environment where you may order, receive, and pay for food without interacting with anyone.
